Spectrum analyzer with USRP, GNU Radio and MATLAB Ant onio Jos e Costa, Jo~ao Lima, Lucia Antunes, Nuno Borges de Carvalho fantoniocosta, j ima, a30423, nbcarvalhog@ua.pt January 23, 2009 Abstract In this paper, a spectrum analyzer in the 2.3 - 2.7GHz band is proposed using the USRP, GNU Radio and the MATLAB soft-ware. With this solution, a

Design and prototype SDR systems with MATLAB and Simulink A software-defined radio (SDR) is a wireless device that typically consists of a configurable RF front end with an FPGA or programmable system-on-chip (SoC) to perform digital functions. Matlab, I would suggest also asking on some Matlab user's list. I believe that a number of the more clueful people on this list are philosophically disinclined to volunteer to help people use proprietary software. There has been some recent discussion about using Free software that has matlab-like features, like octave and freemat.

complex float (The file format of this data is.bin i.e binary) In complex float format the data is encoded with 64 bits, 32 bits for I and 32 bits for Q. To import these data to MATLAB we need to save this data in.mat format gr-matlab Example gnuradio block that used codegenerated function from MATLAB. The example is for the estimation of DoA using four input streams with a RootMUSIC algorithm. Generating from MATLAB directly can allow you to easily import complex mathematical functions into gnuradio processing blocks. GNU Radio provides an excellent framework for experimenting signal processing for communication. A receiver or transmitter design in GNU Radio is made up of many blocks each performing one specific function (modulation, encoding, scaling, etc).

GNU Radio has a built-in functionality with stream tags to keep track of timing information. This can be useful for working with packetized data, but currently there isn’t any way to save those tags along with data to look at later. I’ve been working on a few blocks that might be able to help with this. Bursty Data & Stream Tags

I need to know how to read this data into matlab. The problem is in the data-type. IDL can create complex double arrays but it seems matlab cannot.

To do this I wrote a fairly simple block “Tag to Byte”. Converting the Binary File to a MATLAB Readable Form The file created above contains binary data that MATLAB (or Octave) does not know how to read. There is a set of .m files in gnuradio-core/src/utils that perform the needed conversions.

Wireshark is a network packet analyzer/dissector that aides with troubleshooting and analysis of network protocols. RFTap also supports other DSP languages like Pothos, liquidsdr, LuaRadio as well as other packet analyzers like TShark, tcpdump, Scapy. MATLAB, GNURadio, and Python are popular choices for the first stage of design due to the standard flexibility of software development. Once the theoretical performance for modem is validated, the DSP algorithms developed in the previous step can be implemented again as floating point implementation.
